Ancient Tree Black Tea

Price

£19.00

Malty · Nectar · Brisk

Crafted from old Yunnan tea trees, this ancient tree black tea is naturally generous: long, twisted leaves give a bright amber cup with layered malt, dark honey and stone-fruit sweetness, balanced by a brisk, lively finish. Hints of cocoa, spice and dried longan make each sip feel both comforting and alert.

Stored in our double-lid tin, the tea’s rich aromatics stay concentrated, ready for mornings when you want clarity without losing warmth.

Where it Begins

Yunnan, China

In the old forests around Pu’er, leaves from ancient large-leaf trees are picked by hand, then slowly withered, rolled and fully oxidised before being dried at low heat. This patient craft lets the thick, old-tree leaves darken and caramelise gently, creating a deep amber liquor with natural sweetness – layers of dark honey, dried fruit and quiet, lingering spice.

Frequently asked questions

  • All Tea Ducks loose-leaf teas come in reusable, double-lidded metal caddies. The opaque tin keeps out light, and the two lids create a tight, low-air space to preserve aroma and flavour.

Each 5 g compressed tea cake is sealed in a premium high-barrier foil sachet, similar to those used for fine coffee, protecting the tea from light, odour and humidity.

At home, store your tea in a cool, dry cupboard, away from steam and strong smells. Keep the caddy sealed between uses and it will do the work of protecting your tea.

  • Our pure teas are 100% tea leaves only – no added flavourings, sweeteners or colourings – from partners in China’s tea regions.

Every batch is independently lab-tested to UK/EU standards with 600+ checks for pesticides, heavy metals and related residues.

We then pack the teas in airtight metal caddies or high-barrier foil sachets made from food-contact approved materials, to shield them from light, air, odour and moisture and preserve their original flavour and aroma.

  • On each tea you’ll see a Caffeine Intensity rating, based on a 300 ml first infusion:

    • Gentle – about 10–30 mg

    • Moderate – about 30–50 mg

    • Lively – about 50–70 mg

Caffeine drops quickly with each re-infusion, so later cups are much softer.

A standard mug of coffee is around 90–100 mg of caffeine. Tea also contains L-theanine, which softens the lift, so many people experience it as calmer than coffee.

As a guide: Gentle is often comfortable even into the evening, Moderate suits daytime moments, and Lively is best earlier in the day or when you want a clearer lift. If you’re very caffeine-sensitive, pregnant or breastfeeding, please follow medical advice on caffeine intake.

  • Standard UK delivery with Royal Mail is usually 3–5 business days, or 1–2 business days with our express option. Each order is packed with care, and you’ll receive tracking details once it is dispatched.

Your teas travel in sturdy, high-quality kraft packaging to protect the caddies and sachets in transit, while still arriving refined and gift-ready.
